We had a 15 yr old 75G water heater give out in a house we just bought 3 months ago. The home warranty agreed to cover the replacement cost of $1500, as quoted by our plumber. But rather than panicking and clambering for another tank, we sucked it up & began a water-boil with sponge bath regimen. While uncomfortable, this allowed us to think about what we really wanted to do. After a couple of days of research, we decided that whole-house tankless technology was up to snuff, and narrowed it down to Noritz and Rinnai. We researched plumbers & ended up using one that only does tankless installations of these 2 brands. The Rinnai 98I was recommended by the plumber for our 3300sqft home with 4 shower heads. The old beast removed, and the 98i installed... we've been running on it for 1 week. The thing that makes me happiest of all is the hot water heater burner never cuts on, UNTIL WE NEED IT. We left it at the default temp of 120, and that's hot enough for us, but it can go up to 145. The hot water has never failed to show up, and we have filled our very large hydro-massage tub up twice. With the 75gallon tank, hot water would run out before it filled, unless the temp was set up way higher than 120.There are 2 downsides I have noticed, which for us are very minor, but people considering tankless should be aware: 1 - you have to wait a few seconds longer for hot water to arrive - its been on the order of 5-10 seconds additional time; this will certainly increase water usage…

I have only one thing negative to say about Noritz: once you have a Noritz water heater installed by a plumber that is not a LICENSED plumber, bye bye warranty. But it's a risk I was willing to take simply because there is NO BETTER money savind heater on the market, otherwise it would have been no go.Once you have figured out the idiosyncrasies (which are but a few, an intelligent plumber (licensed or not, makes no difference: difference is CAN HE learn?) and frankly I will pay $35 an hour as opposed to paying a a flat rate that is too scandalous to even mention here. I am talking installation costs of THOUSANDS.I have an LLC and I own apartments in So Cal. I have decided to help this man (the plumber) as an LLC I can actually offer his services and refer him if you have the plan on installing any plumbing fixtures. I wish to make no money out of this at all.The Noritz hearter anyway, kicks in ONLY when there is a demand for water. The apartmnts so equipped went from a $65 to $72 monthly bill to $27!!!Send a message to "brent_walker_inc@hotmail.com" if you live in the OC area it can be done.

I bought and had installed an Eternal tankless water heater...I wish I had would have had the time to do more research (I bought it in December of 2010 to beat the deadline for some tax credits that were expiring at the end of 2010). Quite frankly I would never buy this product again. If the flow rate is too high (I have a bath tub that fills at over 5 gpm) or if too low (my main shower has a low flow head...less than .5 gpm) the heater turns off. It seem ludicrous that in order to not have my shower water turn cold, I have to install a shower head that uses more water...kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it? On top of that, it has cost me two $95 service calls by the plumber to find this out...next time I will buy a much better unit!

Recently, just bought this Rinnai R98LSi Natural Gas Tankless Water heater Indoor unit... it's perfect for my family and my size house...we have 3 bathrooms..... this unit is ideal for a house with 2 to 3 bathrooms...I've kept the temp setting on this unit at 115 F degrees. It has built-in remote & temp control panel. We now get continuous and simultaneous hot water supply in all 3 bathrooms, all sinks, and appliances.... for kids 115 F could be too hot, so you may want to mix a little cold water during showers as lower temp setting takes a few minutes longer for hot water to flow thru the tap...although it is dubbed as "instant" water heater but keep in mind that sitting cold water in the pipes would still need to be pushed out before hot water flows... so you may need to waste a little water as you would normally let go during winters ....idea is that you want continuous hot water in multiple bathrooms if simultaneously people are taking showers in all bathrooms at the same time ...and you never run out of hot water with this R98Li model.... at 115 degrees setting the hot water comes thru relatively fast but it's really hot....at 110 degree setting, hot water takes a bit longer to come thru which would mean more cold water run-off the tap = more waste of cold water...so I left the setting at 115 degrees on my unit.... the temp setting increment on this unit is 5 degrees... 110, 115, 120, etc... max is 120 setting... sure to burn the skin at 120 ....minimum setting…

I had a Rinnai installed a few weeks ago and its as good as the company said. In the morning a bit longer to get hot water to the shower head, but beyond that it works great. It will take some time to calculate the pay back period, but since I had an electric heater, my guess is a payback period of about 3 years. Given the avg life of 20 years for these type of units, it's well worth the initial expense.

When I first saw this water heater I was excited about the price. Anywhere locally I would have to spend up to $2500 just to purchase the unit. I decided to go ahead an purchase it and save myself some money. What I had not seen before hand, and I wish I had, was the one customer review that explained that the packaging for the water heater was poorly made. What ended up happening was that the water heater arrived damaged. In my opinion the box was completely destroyed and falling apart (UPS was using tape to hold together) and the unit itself had a dent across the front panel. At first all I wanted was amazon to replace the front panel, but instead they went ahead and replaced the entire unit and sent it overnight to my house, which I greatly appreciated. Good thing to, for when the replacement unit came (the box was in much.. much better condition but still damaged). I also noticed that it also had an extra valve that the first shipment did not (there should be 4 total). One thing to note from this:As a previous commentator had said, the Rinnai packaging is terrible, if you can spend the extra money for faster shipping the better. The less time the box spends in shipping the less likely that the unit will arrive damaged. However, that should not be the solution.Amazon you now have 2 complaints and 2 returns due to how poor the packaging is for this item. Please at least add more protection on top of what Rinnai is doing, or find a way to make shipment more friendly to the box.…

We have had our Rheem tankless RTG-84xp for one year and love it. The water is hot very quickly and it stays a a constance temperture during use. We use propane for the fuel and did not notice any change on the tank's level gauge during the summer, I think the fuel use is lower than the energy guide shows. The use propane use in the winter is hard to tell because we use it for the furnace also. I am glad I purchased.

I used to heat water through my oil fired furnace. Once the 2700ES was installed, I was able to turn off my furnace all together. It is so great to not hear the furnace kick on several times a day to continuously heat water just in case we needed it.The only draw back so far is the 20 second wait for the initial delivery of the hot water and this is only a problem for hand washing. My next plan is to install a solar hot water system in series with the 2700ES to save on NG and alleviate the hand washing delay.I recommend spending the extra money on the optional Auto Reset GFCI cord so you will never have to worry about resetting the 2700ES after a power failure.I also recommend spending the extra money on the AQ3ES Vent Kit because it is designed specifically for the 2700ES and makes the installation a bit easier. The minimum spacing between the intake and exhaust is 3 feet so I placed my unit in the corner of the basement where the intake and exhaust could be on separate walls giving me maximum spacing with minimal pipe runs.If you are going to purchase one of these, I suggest checking out [...] as they seem to have the best prices and offer lightning fast free shipping on most all products. Keep an eye on their site though, they continually offer discount coupons and their prices seem to fluctuate. All in all, I am thrilled with the 2700ES and with the size of the unit, I am able to get an endless amount of hot water delivered simultaneously to as many showers/appliances as my…

I would not recommend installing Navien tankless hot water heaters. We have had nothing but trouble with ours, and the customer service people at Navien never responded to my request for help that I entered on their website. Our contractor installed 2 Navien Model NR-240 tankless hot water heaters in our new construction home in June 2010. Since then we have had continuing problems with the hot water heaters, specifically the hot water recirculating pumps. When we first moved in the tanks did not recirculate the hot water as advertised, and we complained to the contractor. He had the installer take a look, and they couldn't figure it out, so they contacted the company, who sent a rep out to look at the units. They eventually got it working, but it stopped working again after several months. We have since had several other plumbers out to work on the units. Many don't know how to use them, they are quite difficult to program, apparently. One plumber finally took it on and after studying the manual figured ot the problem, and he had them working again. However, again, after a few months they stopped working. The problem with these units is it takes a very long time for the hot water to reach the faucet. In our kitchen, we have resigned ourselves to doing dishes with lukewarm water, because it takes so long for the water to get hot it just isn't worth the wait. The same happens in the shower in the morning, might as well turn on the shower, go have a cup of coffee, and then maybe…

When it works, it's pretty good. Doesn't have quite the same "push" as a tank water heater, as there isn't a 300-pound column of water being pulled towards the outlet in the tank by gravity. However, as advertised, it will keep water flowing at a constant temperature. You can take a shower for 5 minutes or 5 hours, and the temperature will never change! Now, the design flaw. I had to screw around with this thing for about an hour at 3AM to figure out that if it loses power, you have to drain the water tank. If you don't do this, the calibration it tries to run when it's powered on will fail. Fortunately, there is a reasonably quick solution. The following was adapted from page 15 of the manual: [...] - Use it at your own risk. If your heater doesn't work, maybe just call a plumber. (Hand them a printout of this if they get stumped.)Here's the steps:- Disconnect power- Make sure NOT to stand in front of the MAINTENANCE valves (they open to the front & have hose connectors)- Close the cold and hot water valves (the ones that control the in/out pipes directly)- Open the cold and hot water MAINTENANCE valves- Wait for water to finish draining completely out of the tank (a minute or less)- Close the cold and hot water MAINTENANCE valves, and leave the regular valves closed too- Reconnect the power- Wait at least 30 seconds for it to calibrate (you'll hear a stepper motor running intermittently)- Open the cold water (NOT MAINTENANCE) valve- Wait for the tank to fill (you'll…

The unit came from Amazon almost completely out of the box, plastic parts broken, box was half open. Almost sent it back right then, but I had the installer lined up for the next day, permits pulled, inspections pre-scheduled, gas company etc. etc.The unit is initially very slow to respond and provides adequate hot water after 5 minutes or so.Shipping problem was very bad.Unit is adequate, not as good as I expected.we will see how much money it saves on gas versus wasted water?
